Kentucky Attorney General, Jack Conway, announced today at the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce the availability of $32 million to go towards substance abuse treatment and recovery programs, educational programs, and enforcement throughout the Commonwealth. Northern Kentucky has a growing need for more funds!
As Chair of this year’s Health Care Policy Committee at the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, I want to continue to bring attention to the Heroin Epidemic in our community. I remember very vividly, a committee meeting just a couple summers ago, where Dr. Jeremy Engel, Dr. Owen Nichols and other health care providers brought attention to our committee the alarming growth rate and instances of Heroin addictions and overdoses in our community. My sister, Geralyn Isler, chaired the Health Chair Policy Committee the following year and encouraged the Chamber to make this issue a top priority.
Many throughout Northern Kentucky joined together to form a leadership team to address the problem. In November, 2013, the team produced a report outlining their plan to provide people of Northern Kentucky access to life-saving and life-restoring resources for heroin addiction and hopefully reduce its impact in our communities.
