Covered Expense

Definition:

A medical procedure or item that is deemed payable by the insurance plan.

Application:

The health plan will consider an office visit by a physician to treat influenza a covered expense. However, the phone charges made during a hospital inpatient stay will not be considered a covered expense. A covered expense is dependent upon whether the item or procedure is medically necessary and listed as payable in the policy booklet.
